GOVERNMENT MODEL HIGH SCHOOL-1 RC DHANAS CHANDIGARH

Government Model High School -1 RC Dhanas, Chandigarh situated at the periphery of the city aims at imparting quality education emphasizing the round development of the students. As a regular practice followed every year, this session began with the process of admissions. As per RTE Act and existing departmental guidelines, admission was given to maximum students including the dropouts. Although regular classroom teaching was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic yet it was faced with courage and positivity. Online classes were held as per the timetable provided by the department. Students were given regular assignments, periodic tests and they were continuously in touch with teachers through social media platforms. Students were engaged to learn through the Diksha app, E- Pathshala app and motivated to attend lectures on the Swayam Prabha channel and Kishore Manch. Online CCT practice papers 6,7&8 were conducted with 100% attendance. Other study material such as ‘HARSHIT’ for science and ‘STEP BY STEP’ and ‘MATHLETE’ for mathematics, ‘SANKALP’ for reading literacy was also shared with students regularly. Monitoring of performance for students of class  I to VIII was done regularly through the Phoenix app. Remedial classes for weak students were conducted. Teachers updated their knowledge by attending online seminars conducted by CBSE and NCERT.

SMC meetings and PTMs were also held online. Regular counseling of parents and students was carried out by counselors and teachers to make them aware of the Covid safety norms and government guidelines. Students were made aware of the ill effects/misuse of mobiles. All Covid protocols were followed. Cleanliness and hygiene were maintained at all times, sanitization stations were established and thermal checking was done for every visitor. Classroom doubt clearing sessions and guidance was provided to Class-X students voluntarily to prepare them well for board exams. Virtual trips were carried out by Fire Institute Panjab University, Chandigarh department of environment, and DRDO.  We even catered to the CWSN students. Their Whatsapp group was formed and regular training was carried out at cluster level. They were provided sanitizers and ration. Online physiotherapy and speech camps were organized. Mid-day meal dry ration, medicines ( albendazole, IFA tablets) were provided regularly.

Pre Matric scholarships for SC, OBC, and minority students as well as other existing scholarships i.e State Harijan welfare scholarship, Dr. BR Ambedkar scholarship, Physically handicap scholarship, Girls attendance scholarship were processed. School is also associated with a few NGOs who regularly provide free Textbooks, uniforms, and shoes to meritorious and needy students.

All activities under Fit India Program were conducted regularly. Various competitions and activities such as poster making, essay writing, poem recitation, model making were also held online concerning Environment Day, Earth Day,  Biodiversity day, Voters day, No tobacco day, best out of waste, avoid single-use of plastic, Swatch Bharat, etc. Technology and toys fair was organized in the school, in which many innovative models were prepared by the students. They participated in these activities with enthusiasm. Entries for Inspire award were also sent. A total of 165 students took the Class-X board examination and the school pass percentage was 76.3 %.

We are optimistic that in this session we will come out of the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic and organize many good programs and activities, for the students to enhance their physical, mental, social, and intellectual health.
